Rebuild Your Kingdom as the King in the Mountain
Indie developer Milo Panta and publisher Human Qube Games have officially released the first Steam demo for King in the Mountain, giving players an early look at its strategic resource management and incremental mining gameplay.
In King in the Mountain, you play as an exiled king determined to restore a fallen kingdom hidden beneath a mysterious mountain. Starting with only a small group of dwarves, you’ll plan mining routes, gather valuable resources, and decide how far your crew should venture before their torch burns out. Every expedition is a careful balance between risk and reward, with longer tunnels offering the chance to uncover gold, gems, and ancient artifacts.
Unlike many mining games, the game focuses entirely on planning and progression rather than combat. Players gradually unlock better tools, recruit more dwarves, and upgrade their torch to reach deeper sections of the mountain that were previously inaccessible.
Back at the Mountain Hall, the kingdom steadily comes back to life. You’ll build workshops, smelteries, kitchens, and other essential rooms while managing production and crafting equipment for future expeditions. The settlement grows alongside your mining operations, making each successful haul feel meaningful.
The new demo also includes several improvements based on feedback from August’s public playtest, including a clearer in-game guide, blueprint-based upgrades, improved building management, expanded forest expedition mechanics, and smarter production settings.
If you enjoy thoughtful strategy and satisfying progression, King in the Mountain is shaping up to be a promising indie title worth keeping on your Steam wishlist.
