Get Ready to Climb the Tower in Kill the Stream
The end of the world is getting a live audience. Independent developer Required Games has officially announced Kill the Stream, a new action roguelite where players must climb a mysterious Tower while cosmic beings watch, comment on their every move, and treat Earth’s final moments as prime-time entertainment. The game is currently scheduled to launch on PC via Steam in Q2 2027, with its price yet to be revealed.
In Kill the Stream, players take on the role of an ordinary person thrown into the Tower. The objective is simple: climb as high as possible or watch Earth get completely erased. However, you won’t be making the journey alone.
A group of cosmic beings known as the Constellations watches your every move. They treat your desperate climb like a live entertainment show, reacting to your actions through an in-game chat. Some may try to help you, while others might simply show up to insult you before disappearing. Build a strong enough relationship with one of them, and they can reward you with a unique Contract that grants their signature power.
The story takes an unexpected turn with ION, the Constellation assigned to broadcast Earth’s final moments. During his first major broadcast, ION accidentally kills you. Fearing punishment from the more powerful Constellations, he secretly hacks Earth’s system and gives you a forbidden ability called REGRESSOR.
With REGRESSOR, death is no longer the end. Every time you die, you rewind time and return to the fight. Meanwhile, ION must keep his mistake hidden as your increasingly bizarre climb continues.
Kill the Stream has a pretty unusual premise, and its mix of roguelite action, live commentary, and cosmic drama could make it one to keep an eye on.
