Step Inside the Battlefield in the Latest Legacy Edition
Middle-earth is heading back to war as Aspyr has officially released The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition on PC and consoles. Priced at $19.99, the updated action RPG is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is also available, with its Nintendo EU eShop release scheduled for August 18.
Originally developed by Snowblind Studios and released in 2011, War in the North returns with several modern improvements designed to make the experience smoother for both newcomers and longtime fans. Players can once again team up with up to three players through online co-op or enjoy two-player local split-screen multiplayer.
The Legacy Edition also introduces quality-of-life upgrades. This includes character hot-swapping, improved enemy targeting, a revamped user interface, party Health, Mana, and EXP bars. It also features autosave functionality, gyro controls on supported consoles, 60 FPS gameplay, and various bug fixes.
The game tells a darker story set away from the Fellowship’s journey. It follows three heroes as they battle Agandaûr, a Black Númenórean serving Sauron who has gathered a powerful army in Fornost.
War in the North offers a more brutal take on Middle-earth, combining action-focused combat with character progression and cooperative gameplay. A 10% launch discount is available through August 24.
For fans of The Lord of the Rings, this looks like a welcome return to a classic adventure. Time to sharpen those swords and head back to Middle-earth.
