Indie developer Electro Soul Games has officially unveiled Broken Dagger, a new old-school fantasy RPG that wears its inspirations proudly. Drawing clear influence from The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, the game aims to bring back the depth and freedom that defined classic role-playing experiences. Alongside the announcement, the game’s Steam page has now gone live, giving players their first proper look at what’s in store.
At its core, Broken Dagger is built around player choice and consequence. Set in a dangerous and mysterious world, players will navigate moral dilemmas, uncover forgotten ruins, and shape the fate of the land through their decisions. Each quest offers multiple paths to completion, whether through brute force, stealth, clever deception, or careful negotiation. The game emphasizes that actions will have lasting effects, influencing both the world and its inhabitants.
Exploration plays a major role as well. Players are free to roam across villages, open fields, and ancient dungeons at their own pace. Hidden secrets, unexpected encounters, and branching storylines encourage curiosity and experimentation rather than a guided, linear journey.
Staying true to its classic roots, Broken Dagger avoids hand-holding mechanics, instead focusing on player-driven storytelling and freedom of approach. It’s a design philosophy that aims to reward creativity and immersion.
Broken Dagger is currently planned for release in early 2027. With its strong emphasis on choice and non-linear gameplay, it’s shaping up to be a promising return to the spirit of classic RPGs.
