Volcalidus Expansion Is Also Coming to Hydroneer
UK-based developer Foulball Hangover has announced that its hit mining and automation sandbox, Hydroneer, is heading to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on May 8. The console launch coincides with the sixth anniversary of the game’s original PC debut, bringing its intricate engineering systems and explosive sandbox creativity to consoles for the first time.
First released in May 2020, Hydroneer quickly became a sleeper success in the crafting and base-building space, surpassing one million copies sold on Steam. Over the years, major updates and feature expansions, including couch co-op multiplayer, have helped cultivate a dedicated global fanbase. The console editions will remain faithful to the core PC experience, with interface and control optimizations tailored specifically for gamepads.
Hydroneer offers a tactile mining and crafting system where players manually dig for ore and gemstones before refining and forging them into valuable creations. As operations expand, players can construct elaborate automated setups using conveyor belts, drills, harvesters, and piping systems to build fully functional smelting factories. The open world features multiple dig sites, NPC settlements, quest-givers, and shops, encouraging exploration and progression. A standout couch co-op mode supports up to four players working together on ambitious engineering projects.
The console release will also support the Journey to Volcalidus expansion, originally launched in 2024 and sold separately. The expansion introduces a massive new world, more than six times larger than the base map, lava-powered automation technology, and the settlement of New Glade, where players rebuild an entire town while unlocking new upgrades and items. So, get ready for this brand new adventure when it comes out this May.
