Vena Has Released Its First Steam Demo Today

Welcome to the World of Vena

Solo developer Loerting has released a playable demo for Vena, a genre-defying automation roguelike, now available on Steam. The demo offers an early look at a game that blends the satisfaction of building complex resource networks with the pressure and unpredictability of a roguelike deckbuilder.

In Vena, players place hexagonal tiles to funnel resources into the Nexus, a central core with constantly escalating demands. Success depends on efficient planning and rapid adaptation, as even small mistakes can unravel an entire run. Unlike traditional city builders, the game delivers a fast, puzzle-like gameplay loop with procedural generation.

Between phases, players roll dice to access a dynamic shop filled with factories, converters, and powerful perks. This dice-driven economy forces tough choices between safe upgrades and risky rolls that could unlock devastating synergies. The core objective is to survive nine increasingly intense phases by feeding the Nexus through six sprawling veins. Players must do so all while managing limited space and resources.

The full game will expand on this foundation with seven distinct game modes and five difficulty tiers ranging from Normal to God, offering deep replayability. Vena’s striking red-and-green pixel art style and original ethnic-inspired soundtrack help create an immersive flow-focused atmosphere.

“Vena is an attempt to merge the ‘just one more turn’ feeling of civilization builders with the adrenaline of a roguelike run,” said Loerting, creator of Vena. “Releasing the demo today is a huge milestone, and I can’t wait to see the chaotic, efficient, and broken engines players will build.”

The Vena demo is free to download now on Steam, with the full game scheduled for release in 2026.
