A Huge Milestone for Nioh 3
KOEI TECMO and Team NINJA announced today that Nioh 3 has surpassed 1 million copies sold worldwide on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC via Steam. This marks the fastest-selling launch in the franchise’s history. To celebrate the milestone, the companies released a new accolades trailer highlighting praise from critics and media. With this achievement, the Nioh series has now crossed 10 million copies sold globally.

In Nioh 3, players step into the role of Tokugawa Takechiyo, who stands on the brink of becoming shogun during Japan’s Edo period. However, peace collapses when his younger brother, Tokugawa Kunimatsu, driven by jealousy and empowered by a dark force, unleashes a horde of yokai to overthrow him. Guided by the mysterious Guardian Spirit Kusanagi, Takechiyo travels across time to save a nation in chaos and secure his destiny.
The game delivers the largest narrative scope in series history. Players explore multiple eras and locations, including Edo Castle, the Totomi region during the Warring States period, Kyoto in the Heian period, and, for the first time, the Bakumatsu era. Each timeline unfolds as a vast open field with distinctive environments.
There are two distinct combat styles in this latest entry: Samurai and Ninja. The Samurai style builds on the series’ grounded combat while introducing an Arts Proficiency system and a new Deflect mechanic for perfectly timed counters. Players can choose from several editions, including Standard, Digital Deluxe with Season Pass, and a SteelBook Launch Edition. A free demo is also available on PS5 and Steam.
