Famished Has Released a Cannibalistic Demo on Steam and itch.io

Chilling Horror Awaits in Famished

British indie developer SlaughterWare has released the first playable demo for Famished, a first-person narrative horror game that blends psychological terror, dark humour, and surreal gameplay. The demo is now available on itch.io and Steam, giving players an early look at the unsettling experience ahead of the game’s planned Autumn 2026 launch.

In Famished, players take on the role of Oatmeal Clutterbuck, a bullied and intellectually impaired teenager living in suburban Kansas. His already grim life spirals into horror when an alien parasite called Whispergut burrows inside him and begins feeding on his body. The creature awakens a relentless, unnatural hunger that ordinary food cannot satisfy, pushing Oatmeal toward increasingly disturbing choices.

As his appetite intensifies, players explore warped versions of everyday suburban spaces, uncover hidden secrets, and confront grotesque, surreal encounters. The demo covers the opening chapter of Oatmeal’s descent, combining narrative-driven exploration with experimental gameplay sequences designed to unsettle and disorient.

Rather than relying on traditional combat-heavy mechanics, the game focuses on atmosphere, psychological tension, and immersive storytelling. Its retro-inspired low-poly art style evokes early 3D console horror games, enhancing the sense of dread while reinforcing its deliberately off-kilter tone.

The full version of Famished is scheduled for release in Autumn 2026. So, go ahead and dive into the demo right now to feel its chilling horrors before the game officially arrives. Also, check out the demo launch trailer below to get a glimpse of the darkness ahead.
