Final Fantasy XIV Online Director Drops New Hint About Nintendo Release

Final Fantasy XIV Online Might Be On Its Way

Final Fantasy XIV Online director Naoki Yoshida has once again hinted at the long-discussed possibility of the MMORPG arriving on a Nintendo platform. During a New Year conversation with fans, Yoshida was asked about the chances of the game appearing on Switch systems. In response, he reportedly said players should “please look forward to it,” reigniting speculation about a future release.

This is not the first time Yoshida has spoken openly about bringing Final Fantasy XIV to Nintendo hardware. Over the past several years, he has repeatedly acknowledged interest in expanding the game beyond its current platforms. In June 2024, Yoshida suggested that Nintendo’s next-generation hardware would better suit the MMORPG, pointing to a potential Switch successor as a more realistic target.

Further momentum followed in August 2025, when Yoshida revealed at Gamescom that Square Enix and Nintendo had already held positive discussions regarding a possible port. While these comments indicated progress behind the scenes, he also made it clear that nothing had reached the stage of a formal announcement.

At present, Final Fantasy XIV Online remains unavailable on any Nintendo system, and Square Enix has not confirmed development for Switch or its successor. However, the continued mentions from Yoshida suggest that the idea is still very much alive.

For now, Square Enix is focusing its attention elsewhere. The company is preparing to release Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for the Switch 2 later this month, highlighting its growing commitment to Nintendo platforms while keeping the door open for Final Fantasy XIV in the future.
