The Danganronpa Series Has Sold More Than 10 Million Copies Worldwide

What a Brilliant Milestone for Danganronpa

Spike Chunsoft has confirmed that the Danganronpa series has surpassed 10 million copies shipped worldwide, marking a major milestone for the long-running mystery adventure franchise.

The series first debuted in Japan on November 25, 2010, with the release of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc for the PSP. What began as a niche visual novel quickly gained a devoted following thanks to its distinctive mix of murder mystery, courtroom drama, and dark humor. Over the years, the franchise has expanded to include three mainline titles released across multiple platforms, along with localized versions that introduced the series to a global audience. In addition to the core games, two spin-off titles further explored the Danganronpa universe and its characters.

The most recent release in the series was Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp, which launched on Nintendo Switch in 2021. While the franchise has remained quiet since then, fans have new content to look forward to. Spike Chunsoft has announced Danganronpa 2×2, an enhanced edition of the second mainline entry, scheduled to release on Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 in 2026. This version will preserve the original story and cast while introducing an additional alternate story route and upgraded visuals.

Series creator Kazutaka Kodaka has also remained active beyond Danganronpa. In 2025, he released The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy to strong critical praise, followed by SHUTEN ORDER later in the year, which received a more divided response.
