Just Don’t Get Caught Doing the Roadside Research
Roadside Research is preparing for a major debut as it heads to Early Access in Q1 2026 on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass. Developed by Cybernetic Walrus and published by Oro Interactive, the game was first revealed earlier this Summer. Since then, the alien-run gas station simulator has quickly built momentum, reaching more than 400,000 wishlists and drawing over 600,000 players to its demo. To mark the upcoming launch window, the team has released a new trailer highlighting several additions, including mask painting, customizable alien skin tones, and encounters with government agents who will not hesitate to reduce players to a puddle of goo.
Designed as a co-operative simulator for one to four players, Roadside Research places you and your friends in charge of a gas station operated undercover by aliens. The task is to blend in, appear convincingly human, and collect valuable intel while avoiding unwanted attention. Routine duties like refueling cars and stocking shelves form the surface level of the job, but the real work happens behind the scenes. As players progress, they can upgrade both the public-facing gas station and the hidden alien facility that drives the mission toward a full invasion.
Players can manage the station alone or with a group, choosing between two advancement paths that influence human side income or boost alien research capabilities. The simulation focuses on simple but engaging tasks that reward careful attention, while the disguise system adds a layer of tension. Allowing suspicion to build invites government agents who bring the operation to a messy end. It also supports cross-play between Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC. However, the Xbox PC and Steam versions do not connect. You can add it to your wishlist and stay informed as the mission approaches.
