Consumption Line Has Started Working on Steam for Free

Become a Factory Worker in the Consumption Line

Rhombico Games has released Consumption Line, a free experimental indie title now available on Steam. Created as a focused, half-hour experience, the game puts players in the role of a worker on a soup assembly line, where routine tasks slowly shift into an unsettling exploration of food systems, advertising, and capitalism.

At the surface of the game, the mechanics appear straightforward. Players manage two machines, one handling broth and the other noodles, to meet daily quotas before ending the shift. Yet the ordinary soon begins to change. Ingredients swap out, the pace of the machines intensifies, and the once-familiar rhythm transforms into something strange and thought-provoking.

“Games have a massive advantage over other forms of media,” said Federico Casares, founder of Rhombico Games. “When you watch a film or read a book, you can always say the character made the choice. In a game, you made the choice. That’s why I believe games are fantastic conversation starters, and tools for reflection and empathy. With Consumption Line, I wanted to explore how through repetition and subtle changes we can make players reflect about some of the aspects of modern life.”

By limiting playtime to a single sitting, Casares designed Consumption Line as both accessible and impactful. The absence of ads, microtransactions, or hidden costs further underscores its experimental nature, inviting players to engage without distraction.

With its deceptively simple setup and quietly shifting scenarios, Consumption Line aims to draw attention to the pressures and patterns of modern society while using gameplay itself as the lens. In doing so, it reinforces the idea that games are not only entertainment but also a powerful medium for sparking reflection. So, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and give it a go.
