New Cool Features for Valkyrie of Phantasm
PLAYISM and Areazero have released a major update for Valkyrie of Phantasm, the Touhou Project fan game currently in Early Access on Steam. The update introduces a single-player Survival Mode, brand new spells for all characters, three new fully voiced story episodes, and an expressive emote system.
In Survival Mode, players battle CPU opponents in consecutive rounds with limited health. Clearing stages unlocks new abilities, giving players more tools to personalize their characters and improve performance.
Each playable character now comes with new spells, alongside rebalanced existing skills. The update also introduces a Spell Setup feature, letting players save up to four custom loadouts for flexible strategy changes during gameplay.
The expanded story continues with three new episodes, all fully voiced. Players can also now use emotes in matches, combining character icons, speech bubbles, and unique voice lines. Several exclusive illustrations and voice content have been added specifically for this feature. Smaller improvements include new stages, bug fixes, and overall refinements. A detailed changelog is available on the game’s official Steam page.
To celebrate, Valkyrie of Phantasm is available at 30% off as a part of the PLAYISM Summer Vacation Sale. The event is live on Steam until August 14, 2025, at 9:59 AM PDT. The developers have also confirmed that versions for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 are currently in development.
With more game modes and features planned for future updates, this is a key moment for players interested in fast-paced aerial battles set in the world of Gensokyo.
