Escape the Enemies in Lost in the Open
WhisperGames has announced a publishing partnership with indie studio Black Voyage Games for Lost in the Open. It is a brutal roguelike tactical RPG that will be coming out on PC and Steam Deck later this year. A demo is already available as well for everyone to try out.
The game marks Black Voyage Games’ debut and brings together an international team of talent. Among them are a former Toca Boca developer, a Mexico-based art director, the composer of Parkour Legends, and a 2D animator with experience in Japanese studios. Their shared goal is to create an experience that blends unforgiving gameplay with a rich, immersive atmosphere.
Lost in the Open unfolds in a grim medieval setting, placing players in the role of King Nrvesk, a monarch who survives a failed assassination attempt. With only two loyal bodyguards at his side, he must navigate a vast, procedurally generated overworld while being hunted by relentless enemies. Along the way, players will engage in tactical battles, encounter branching story events, and make decisions that shape their journey.
The game emphasizes more than just combat. Players must balance resource management, recruit allies with care, and confront the consequences of Nrvesk’s violent history. Every run offers a different challenge, ensuring no two campaigns feel the same.
Choices play a central role in survival. A flicker of light in the distance may signal helpful merchants, or it may hide a dangerous ambush. Each moment of uncertainty forces players to weigh risk and reward, making every encounter a potential turning point.
With its fusion of strategy, survival, and storytelling, Lost in the Open aims to deliver a tense, atmospheric experience that keeps players on edge with every step.
