Nintendo has filed patents for a total number of 32 in-game technologies. And all of them except one, are related to this masterpiece. It covers Link’s abilities such as ‘Fuse”Fuse’, ‘Ultrahand’, and ‘Recall’. Not only that, but the company has also registered patents for specific abilities, such as Riju’s remote lightning attack.

While this is standard practice for Nintendo, as emphasized by Automaton, a few of these patents could be viewed as “tad too aggressive” or “too general”. The Japanese developer has even gone so far as to patent certain fundamental concepts, such as the game’s loading sequences. The mechanic where players utilize fast travel to transport Link to a new location. This causes the starting point map to change into a map of the destination.

Another patent in focus includes calculating the speed while the game’s main character, Link, positions himself on top of a “dynamic” object or vehicle. Nintendo seems to be very serious about their games getting copied at this point.
