We Have the Technology
As gamers, to traverse the virtual gamingsphere, we need input hardware, such as keyboard and mouse or controllers. These tools are vital to our quest to play every game. Sometimes we lose good controllers in tragic ways. Microsoft is offering tools to extend the life of your Xbox controller.
On the Microsoft online store, there is a tab under Xbox for “Repair and Replacement Parts”. Here, you can find part for Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and the standard Xbox Wireless Controller. There are faceplates and replacement button sets available in black and white. There are also electrical components including input circuit boards and motors for vibration.
If your Xbox controller is on the fritz, it is natural to want to open it up and look around. However, it can be intimidating, especially if you are unfamiliar with the parts and assembly. Obviously, you don’t want to cause any more damage.
If something is physically broken, these replacement parts can be useful for basic repairs. Why buy a whole new controller if only a trigger is busted, right? There are some things you would want to consider though, before getting new parts. Microsoft warns customers about the warranty on their devices.
Frist, before you crack open your Xbox controller to “fix” it, keep in mind that replacement parts should only be used on devices that are out of warranty. If the warranty is still good, just send it in for service. Second, Microsoft does not offer tutorials or support when you are doing the repairs. You should have moderate repair knowledge before attempting repairs. Thirdly, any damage you do while repairing voids existing warranty.
Next time something is wrong with your controller, try a DIY project, if you feel confident.
