Xbox DONE
When Generation 9 of console gaming was beginning, both Sony and Microsoft made a commitment not to leave Gen 8 behind. They did this by continuing PS4 and Xbox One in game releases since 2020, when their newest consoles debuted. Three years later, that grace period seems to be coming to a close.
Microsoft’s Matt Booty has confirmed to Axios that they have “moved on to Gen 9”, meaning that they are no longer developing games for Xbox One. That is not to say that third parties won’t still make games for that hardware though.
More and more, we are finding that Xbox One is being dropped from the lists of supporting platforms for new games. We all knew it was coming one day. The latest heavy hitters are only coming to the Series X|S, including Starfield, The Crew Motorfest, Skull and Bones, and Star Wars: Outlaws, and that’s just the ones recently announced.
This news does not mean your Xbox One will just be a paperweight. Microsoft will maintain support with cloud gaming. The console can still stream next-gen titles using Game Pass Ultimate. Obviously, you need that subscription to do so, this could be one of the last exits before this hardware gets phased out entirely.
