Disney Illusion Island Hits Nintendo Switch in One Month

Mickey vs the State of Florida

Sometimes, you just need the classics. Classic gaming? Let’s have a 2D platformer. Classic character? Gimme Mickey Mouse. Classic console? Well, I wouldn’t call Switch a classic, but put it on Nintendo Switch. Next month, Disney Illusion Island launches.

Using hand-drawn animations, Mickey Mouse and his friends navigate the island of Monoth. They will have to recover three magical books to save the world from certain destruction. The books are probably banned in Florida. You can play as either Mickey, Minnie, Donald, or Goofy and play with up to three friends in local co-op.

Disney Illusion Island

Disney Illusion Island will have all your classic platforming actions. You got running, you got jumping, you got swinging, and swimming. You will also be unlocking new abilities as you progress. This will add a layer of Metroidvania gameplay to explore previously inaccessible areas. Depending on which character you play as, the animation of these actions will be in the style of your character.

In co-op, even more abilities are available to help out your partners. From high places, you can drop ropes for your friends to climb. If you crouch, a co-op partner can Leap Frog jump off of you for more distance. In what might be the best ability, you and a friend can gain extra health by hugging each other.

Disney Illusion Island will be coming out on July 28th for Nintendo Switch.

Will you and the gamers in your family be trying this out? Let us know in the comments below.
