It is truly an exciting time in gaming when a titan of the industry begins a new journey. Especially when that journey is one that has the capability to impact the entire landscape of gaming’s future. Dan Houser co-founder of Rockstar Games, has announced that he has founded a new media company known as Absurd Ventures. A lead writer and creative director for game franchises like Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto, and Bully, Houser has many years of experience in the industry. Of course, his new media company is hoping to translate this experience to new IPs across all platforms.
“We are building Absurd Ventures to create new universes and to tell great stories, wherever and however we can,” Says Houser in a press release.
Importantly, the company is focussing on building narrative worlds with a focus on characters. Of course, these creations will be made for a diverse variety of genres. However, these narratives will not only be made for games. The company will be developing content for everything from live-action to animation to games. Furthermore, fans of the company can also look forward to books, graphic novels, and scripted podcasts. It appears that Absurd Ventures will cover a wide variety of content.
Currently, interested fans can sign up on the company’s website to receive exclusive content and company updates. Until 2020, Houser was the creative director and lead writer for Rockstar’s games. Interestingly, five of Rockstar Games games have landed on the top ten games of all-time list.
