Iron Gate Studio Is Working on New Game Modes for Valheim

Stop… Hammer Mode

Everyone’s favorite Norse survival game is getting even more survival-y. It is hard to compare games in this genre without saying the “Minecraft” word. Iron Gate Studio is previewing some new features that might remind you of the big M, but with the signature Valheim flair.

One of the developers released a video showing off the new game modes that they are working on. They focus on different elements of the game, either making things easier or harder, or putting a focus on construction. The list of prospective modes are Casual Mode, Hammer Mode, Immersive Mode, and Easy/Hard/Hardcore Mode.

Valheim

Casual Mode makes all creatures docile, unless provoked. There will be no raids on your base, resources are plentiful, and there is no loss of items or skills upon death. Hammer Mode allows players to build without using resources. Creatures are docile, unless provoked in this mode as well.

Immersive Mode disables portals, as well as the map. Players will have to get creative to mark their position in the world. The different difficulties scale combat and raid frequency. Death on Hardcore Mode carries a heavier price. Players will lose all skills and items upon death and cannot get them back. Hardcore Mode also disables the map and portals.

The above game modes are all presets, but the video also shows that you may be able to customize the settings. The Valheim developer also notes that not all decisions are final and may change. Unfortunately, we do not have a release date on this update.

Valheim is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
