Ark: Survival Ascended to Replace Ark: Survival Evolved on Next Gen

Ark, Uh… Finds a Way

There was some sad news yesterday, to hear that Ark II would delayed into next year. However, if we have learned anything from famous arks, it is that there is always a back up. Just ask Noah, I think that’s why there were two of each animal. Ark: Survival Ascended will be coming in August.

This game is the next step in the evolution of Ark: Survival Evolved. Survival Evolved officially launched in 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and then on Nintendo Switch in 2018. With Xbox Series X|S and PS5s out in gamer households, the game is in dire need of an upgrade. That is why Studio Wildcard is slowly transitioning to the next gen version.

Ark: Survival Ascended

In a lengthy, yet packed development update, Studio Wildcard detailed what fans can expect over the next year or so. Ark: Survival Ascended is the upgraded version of Survival Evolved for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Bear in mind, it does NOT appear to be a free update for PlayStation and Xbox owners. This version will include crossplay between platforms, as well as cross-platform modding, so Xbox and PlayStation users can benefit from certain mods.

To get access to this upgraded game, PS5 owners can buy it at launch for $39.99. PC and Xbox Series X|S owners will have to buy the Ark Respawned Bundle, which includes Ark II and Ark: Survival Ascended priced at $49.99. This bundle will be available until August 2024, after which both games will be sold seperately.

The canon DLC packs will be available at launch, while non-canon DLC will slowly be added. Unfortunately, console owners of Survival Ascended will have to pay for the DLC, even if they have it on the previous generation.

Ark: Survival Ascended is expected to launch in August.
