Returnal Asks a Lot of your PC’s RAM Capabilities
Returnal is an incredible game, held back by being a early title for an expensive console that many gamers simply couldn’t even find in stores. This predicament has since been solved, making its way to the most prominent PC games marketplace: Steam. But it’s a trade-off: the game is now much more accessible, but a new barrier has replaced it.
Granted, it’s a far smaller one this time, but it’s not nothing. The game’s recommended system requirements are turning heads, demanding (among other things) 32GB of RAM to run properly. For reference, most games you’ll find on the market ask for up to 16GB of RAM.
The reason for this requirement has not been formally given. But given statements from Sony themselves, combined with some leaked info, Returnal might have some pretty hefty graphics technology going on under the hood.
Returnal’s Recommended System Requirements:
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit (version 1903)
- Processor: Intel i7-8700 (6 core 3.7 GHz) or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (8 core 3.7 GHz)
- Memory: 32GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia RTX 2070 SUPER (8GB) or AMD RX 6700 XT (12GB)
- Storage: 60GB available space
But that being said, there is a way to run Returnal if you’re okay with a downgrade. Its minimum settings are far nicer. The RAM requirements drop to 16GB, among other things.
Returnal’s Minimum System Requirements:
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit (version 1903)
- Processor: Intel Core i5-6400 (4 core 2.7GHz) or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X (4 core 3.5GHz)
- Memory: 16GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) or AMD Radeon RX 580 (8GB)
- Storage: 60GB available space
