Getty Images is Canon to Final Fantasy 7, Apparently

Final Fantasy 7 has Fantasized about Stock Images

A discovery in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is turning head in the Final Fantasy community. It’s a small thing that could have some wide-reaching consequences, crossing over into real world lore. Getty Images has appeared.

Whatever could this mean? Have capitalist forces taken deeper root in the Final Fantasy universe? If so, this could have some interesting consequences, given everything that Midgar is. Or maybe this is the beginning seed of some universal corruption arc? The realms fracturing, peeking between cracks in reality before breaking down entirely, merging all into one and one into all?!

But there is a more likely theory.

Sometimes, developers use placeholder assets. Sometimes, they forgot that they used placeholder assets. And where teams of developers may forget, the internet is forever.

I know where my heart lies on this issue, personally.  But that doesn’t have much more weight than yours – Square Enix has yet to comment on the issue, offering no clarity one way or the other.

If you’re curious, the actual Getty source image has already been tracked down. Be honest: would you pay that price tag to remove that watermark?

The good news, though, is that this doesn’t seem to be indicative of the rest of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion’s quality. People are enjoying the game to no end, enjoying the polish, the story, and the excellent gameplay. If you’ve played the game already, did you manage to spot this earth-shattering detail? If not, does this forbidden knowledge fundamentally alter your reading of the thematic and political narratives contained within Anime Sword People game? Or is this just funny joke haha?
