The Witcher 1 Remake Is in the Works
The Witcher 1 is getting a remake. CD Projekt Red made the official announcement that they are going to develop the remake with Unreal Engine 5.
“We are thrilled to announce that The Witcher Remake is being worked on,” devs announced. “The game that started it all is being rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5.”
Furthermore, it has also come to light that devs are naming the remake after a prominent constellation. This somewhat provides a hint about the studio’s goals for the franchise. The codename Canis Majoris has been making its round on the Internet for a while. Now, fans of the franchise have an idea about what it is referring to.
“The Witcher Remake is what you might know by the code name Canis Majoris,” they continued. “It is still early and we want to ensure that the game is created with the utmost care and attention to detail.”
With that said, they want The Witcher 1 fans to know that there is still nothing much to discuss about the upcoming project. “We want to ask you for patience,” they added. “It will be a while until we start talking about this project in detail.”
The team that originally handled The Witcher will not be the ones taking care of the remake. Instead, CDPR assigned the job to Polish studio Fool’s Theory. Still, they want fans to know that they will still be behind the new team to provide “full creative supervision.”
“Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games,” said Studio Head Adam Badowski. “They know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen.”
