Moonbreaker Devs Are Getting Rid of In-Game Monetization
Moonbreaker just got its first content patch today. Developer Unknown Worlds responded to the feedback they got from the game’s fans. With that said, they “completely overhauled the business model” of the game to get rid of all forms of monetization and in-game purchases.
“Based on your ongoing feedback, we are re-aligning to make Moonbreaker better reflect our Early Access goals,” devs wrote.
They have decided to completely disable the in-game store. Moonbreaker players who have already purchased Pulsars will automatically get refunds. Fans of the game are well aware that Pulsars is the title’s in-game currency. Blanks and Merits are non-purchasable currencies that will be converted into a new currency called Sparks. Players can then use Sparks to upgrade the rarity of their units. This, in turn, is actually only a cosmetic feature.
Devs also got rid of Booster Boxes. These are purchasable items that will allow players to unlock more miniatures. Instead, units will be unlocked automatically within the base game. Moreover, any units that are part of any new seasons will be automatically accessible as well.
Moonbreaker players who are not opposed to in-game purchases may feel like this new system gives them much less things to keep track of. Having a single currency seems to be much better than a system of three currencies of varying applications.
It is worth noting, however, that the games Founder’s Pack DLC is not going away. This DLC is a bundle of currencies and skins that fans can get with real money. Instead of Pulsars, buyers will now get an extra skin for Zax and Slopper. If these skins do not satisfy those who bought the DLC, devs are ready to provide refunds upon request.
