Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Physical Disc Contains Barely Anything

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Disc Contains Only 70MB

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 fans have noticed something peculiar with the game’s physical copy. It would seem that the game’s disc contains barely anything. In fact, it only has 70MB of data.

At the moment, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is not available to all players just yet. However, fans who were able to pre-order a physical copy ahead of time were able to get it earlier than others. Unfortunately, it was not much of an advantage. Apparently, the content that the disc has is not even a fraction of what can be stored in a PS5 or Xbox Series X disc. It only uses up 0.07223% of a PS5 disc’s capacity for the game.

With that said, physical owners will still have to download the entire game upon putting in the disc. What makes this even more upsetting for them is that they will be impossible to play without an Internet connection.

It is true that most games in the market today can work fine without an initial patch. However, since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s disc does not contain the full game, fans will not even be able to play its single player campaign without a digital download.

Moreover, this also hugely depends on the players’ Internet connection speed or data caps. There is the possibility that downloading the full game could take an extremely long time for others.

It remains unclear if this is Activision’s new norm for CoD releases. However, the gaming community is well aware that devs have been clearly pushing for digital media to completely replace physical media. This sort of practice is not entirely commonplace. Still, it could be a sign that publishers are making discs little more than license keys to download them.
