Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Is Getting “New Premium Content”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will reportedly feature premium campaign content next year. According to multiple reports, Activision is releasing an expansion for next year, instead of a new series entry.
“Next year, they will be selling new stuff for Modern Warfare 2, an expansion or something like that—not sure exactly what it will look like but it will have campaign stuff too,” the insider revealed. “No actual new CoD until 2024.”
This suggests that previous claims that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 devs are holding back 2023’s new title release may end up being true. Should the claims hold any water, then devs are essentially skipping a year when it comes to new installments for the first time in two decades.
“Campaign DLC to be released in late 2023,” another insider wrote on social media. “Bundled with the map pack I leaked previously.” This particular leaker was the one behind the claims suggesting a Greatest Hits pack is in the works. According to him, this pack will contain multiplayer maps from various classic CoD games. This is reportedly part of the franchise’s 20th anniversary celebration.
Just this August, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 devs announced that the franchise is getting “new premium content” in 2023. At the time, fans were quick to speculate that they were referring to a paid DLC. After all, such DLCs were once a staple for the series. However, it is worth noting that they have lessened in the recent years.
Fans are well aware that devs got rid of Season Passes in 2019. Instead, devs started to offer paid map packs with the release of the first Modern Warfare reboot. Moreover, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is due for launch on October 28th. However, players who were able to pre-order its digital version can get early access to its campaign on October 20th.
