Saints Row Dev Is Confident About Game’s Future
The Saints Row reboot did not meet the expectations of the gaming public at launch. It has also recently come to light tat Embracer Group was also not happy with how it turned out. In fact, it was a bit of a plop when it came out last month.
The game was racked with bugs. Plus, the Saints Row community also did not like that the new crew was far too young and hip. Its exclusivity to the Epic Games Store most likely did not help in giving it word-of-mouth exposure on PC as well.
However, multiple Saints Row fans have pointed out that the main problem they have with the reboot is its overabundance of restraint compared to the previous installments in the franchise. This was most likely an unavoidable turn of events for the series. However, fans are not too happy with the changes considering that it brought the terms “dildo bat” to the gamer lexicon.
Even CEO Lars Wingefors admitted that he expected something better. “Obviously, personally I had hoped for a greater reception of the game,” he said. “I am happy to see a lot of gamers and fans happy, at the same time I am a bit sad to see also fans not happy.”
Wingefors does not want Saints Row fans to lose hope, however. He told the gaming community that the game is still “fairly early in its release window.” With that said, players can expect some bug fixes and new content heading its way soon.
The overall sales performance of the Saints Row reboot will be much clearer after the devs’ quarterly financial report in November. “Would it have as great a return of investment as we have seen in many other games—not very likely,” he continued. “But we will make money and that is a very good starting point.”
