Blizzard Expands WoW Development Pipeline With Proletariat Acquisition

A Productive Partnership

The world of MMORPG’s is one of constant content needs. Pumping out new updates, new items, questlines and more all comes with the territory. Of course, with a game as massive as World of Warcraft, this need for content is astonishing. Recently Blizzard, the team behind WoW, announced that they are expanding their ability for content development through the acquisition of Proletariat Studios. A blog post about the acquisition/partnership provides more details. Additionally a press release includes insights from  Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment.

“We are putting players at the forefront of everything we do, and we are working hard to both meet and exceed their expectations.” Says Ybarra in the press release. “Proletariat is a perfect fit for supporting Blizzard’s mission in bringing high-quality content to our players more often.”

Proletariat is made up of veterans of the gaming industry. Working on games such as Asheron’s Call, Lord of the Rings Online and D&D Online the studio has some experience. Of course, this is Proletariat’s first foray into WOW. However, Blizzard is welcoming over one-hundred new employees to their company. The hope is to increase productivity in meeting goals. Additionally, the blog post informs players that the acquisition will take several months. Yet, the initial stages are well underway.

Proletariat has been working with Blizzard since early May. Introducing Proletariat will also introduce a great deal of new production power to Blizzard and the company maintains confidence that they will be faster at creating content. What do you think about the acquisition? Are you hoping to see more content, faster, from WoW?
