Surprise Reveal
Blizzard has finally revealed the official release date for Overwatch 2, in a new gameplay trailer during Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase.
Overwatch 2 is announced to be completely free for all players with a new live service model. The game will also have a new five-versus-five game mode and will enable crossplay on day one for PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, as well as Nintendo Switch. The game is also now officially announced to release on PC and consoles on October 28, 2022.
During the event, Overwatch 2 has also confirmed have a brand new character known as Junker Queen. Overwatch 2 will release more information regarding the new Australian-born tank hero character as well as the new seasonal content plan during a live stream that will take place on June 16 at 10 AM PT.
“We can’t wait to roll out the beginning of the Overwatch 2 experience on October 4 and introduce an exciting new competitive vision, featuring amazing new content and a reimagining of the iconic heroes, maps, and gameplay that made the original game so compelling,” said President of Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Ybarra.
The new trailer was shown off during the Xbox and Bethesda Game Showcase, during which, Xbox has shown off multiple first-party titles including Starfield, Forza Motorsport, Redfall, and many more. Xbox has also already announced another show that will air in two days, Xbox Games Extended Showcase. The new event is set to be longer and will feature deeper looks into already announced games as well as brand-new trailers. Xbox Games Extended Showcase is announced to take place on June 14, at 10 AM PT, 1 PM ET, and 6 PM BST on the Xbox YouTube and Twitch channels.
Overwatch 2 will release on October 28 on the Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC.
