Call of Duty on Multi-Platform Remains Following Microsoft-Activision Deal

A New Era of Call of Duty

Earlier this year Microsoft revealed that it would be purchasing Activision-Blizzard for a record 68.7 Billion dollars. The deal brings the monumental title of Call of Duty under the company’s, ever-growing, roster of games. The question on fans minds became would the classic, and enormously popular, Call of Duty become exclusive to Xbox? Today a blog post by Microsoft’s President and Vice Chair, Brad Smith, clears up the worries around Call of Duty and Xbox Exclusivity.

A tweet from video game journalist Geoff Keighley highlights some of the more important portions of the blog post. Specifically the tweet emphasizes the parts of the post that make clear Microsoft’s intentions around exclusivity.

“To be clear, Microsoft will continue to make Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard titles available on PlayStation through the term of any existing agreement with Activision.” Says Smith in the blog post on Microsoft’s website.

It appears as though Microsoft has no intention of making Call of Duty an Xbox exclusive game. Additionally, the company appears to hold a commitment to ensuring the fair use of the game to additional platforms. The blog also mentions support of Nintendo’s platform.

Additionally the blog post touches on transparency, issues of security and more concerning Microsoft in the future. What do you think about Microsoft’s statement? Also, does this promote a healthier game environment for all gamers?
