Techland Clarifies Dying Light 2’s 500 Hours Completion Time
Techland, the devs behind Dying Light 2, have clarified what they meant when they said it would take 500+ hours to complete Dying Light 2. I still can’t help but think any game designed to be played for 500 hours is too bloated.
Just going through the story and side quests shouldn’t actually take you 500+ hours. Thankfully, it sounds much more manageable. It is still a lot if you want to go for side quests, but not 500 hours.
According to Techland, if you want to complete the story, it will take around 20 hours. It could be a bit more or a bit less, depending on how you play and explore. If you want to really explore and get invested in the world while doing all the sidequests, it will take around 80 hours.
To show just how much bigger this game is than the first, doing the main story and all side quests in the original Dying Light took around 30 hours. That means this will take you over twice as long to beat. That’s a lot of potential content.
If you want to really explore and find everything, and I mean everything, that will take around 500 hours. That includes exploring every corner, getting every collectible, talking to everyone, and getting every ending will take you about 500 hours.
My big takeaway is that I’m absolutely not going to complete this game. Dying Light 2 could be my favorite game of all time, and I’m still not going to put 500 hours into it. I know I certainly don’t have time for that anymore.
I want to see just how engaging Dying Light 2 is. If it is just a Ubisoft experience with a lot of shallow content, I’ll bounce off it. If it offers engaging content, I’ll at least do the story and side-quests. Time will tell.
