Warframe’s Ambitious Story Update is Almost Here
People have been waiting for a continuation to Warframe’s main story for, what years now? Sure, Digital Extremes has put out a huge supply of side-story content, but nothing quite beats an expansion to a plot that’s kept Warframe fans hooked for the game’s 9-year run. And now, they wait no longer. “The New War”, Warframe’s highly-anticipated expansion, is set to release on all platforms on December 15th.
But the update doesn’t just offer a plot expansion for Warframe’s veteran players. A popular frame is getting the Prime treatment, and a whole new frame will see the light of day.
This new frame is named Caliban, and he’s themed around the Sentient enemy type found in Warframe’s later stages. His abilities have already been revealed: Caliban can mimic the Sentients’ spinning attack, summon up to three allied Sentients, and fire off plenty of lasers.
Caliban’s passive is perhaps most interesting of all. If you’ve fought Sentients before, you’ll know how resilient they are. That’s because they gain adaptive resistance to any damage type you use against them, forcing you to change things up. Caliban’s passive essentially gives that ability to your squad.
The freshly-primed Harrow frame comes with all the usual bells and whistles for newly-released primes. Abilities will be buffed, and he gets a slick new gold-trimmed design. A few weapons will get primed versions alongside Harrow, notably the Scourge.
The New War was teased all the way back in 2018, and promises to be Warframe’s “biggest narrative expansion… so far”. Based on what we know so far, the story will have you switching between various perspectives – including enemy factions – and takes place over a massive three-act-structure. It’s an ambitious project to be sure, and luckily, we’ll soon see if it paid off.
