A New Generation of Headsets
Turtle Beach has launched the redesigned headset, the Recon 200 Gen 2. You can grab them now in black, white, and an all-new midnight blue color.
The Recon 200 Gen 2 offers 40mm speakers, 12-hour battery life, new memory foam cushions, and a newly designed headband. The Recon Gen 2 will work with the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and mobile with the 3.5mm jack.
The Recon 200 Gen 2 also has Variable Mic Monitoring, so you can hear how you sound in the headset. The headset also offers a quick charge where 15 minutes of charging will get you one and a half hours of wireless play, and you can always use the 3.5mm jack if you forget to charge it.
The headset also has my preferred flip-to-mute mice style. I find this far preferable to having to find and press a button to mute. It isn’t a deal-breaker if headsets use a button, but I prefer this style.
Turtle Beach isn’t really my style, but this seems like a solid headset. It has a traditional feature set that retails for $59.95. This has about everything I would expect at that price.
The Recon 200 Gen 2 probably isn’t the best headset around. I haven’t used it or the original, so I’m not sure how they sound, but at $59.95 you really can’t go wrong. I usually recommend just saving up some extra money and going for a headset in the $99 range.
In the $99 range, you can usually get a headset with better speakers and more features. It is a bit extra money, but I think the bang for your buck ratio is just better at the $99 price point. Once you get more expensive, it tends to taper off, and cheaper tend to use cheap speakers or lack essential features.
