Are Ya Ready, Kids?
The SpongeBob SquarePants games of the early 2000s have a special place in the hearts of gamers from that era, but THQ Nordic has announced a brand new SpongeBob game. SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake will be heading to PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, but it is unclear when.
The most recent video game release from SpongeBob was SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, which of course was the remake of the 2003 title. The most recent original game was SpongeBob HeroPants, which came out for Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox 360 in 2015.
The announcement for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake was accompanied by a cinematic trailer. It features the iconic song Sweet Victory from the show, as SpongeBob gets sucked into different dimensions and takes on various forms that fans of the show may recognize.
The trailer has vibes reminiscent of Crash Bandicoot: It’s About Time, with so many different locations, characters, and variants of characters being shown. It also leaves us with more questions than answers. With no actual gameplay and a mess of wacky things, like Mrs. Puff shredding the solo in Sweet Victory, we don’t actually know what this game is.
Judging by what the trailer shows, we can glean some idea of what we will see, but as far as the actual game, we will just have to wait for more information. SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is just one of many games shown off at THQ Nordic’s 10th anniversary showcase.
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake will be “coming soon” to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
