Nine Inch Nails’ Guitarist Has Launched A Video Game Development Studio With An Industry Veteran
Nine Inch Nails is a popular American rockband led by Trent Reznor. The band is known for its conceptual songs and so it’s not surprising that its guitarist, Robin Finck has announced his role in the creation of a video game development studio. Robin Finck, along with veteran game designer Cory Davis, have confirmed the creation of Eyes Out, a video game development studio formed out of a shared love for video games and building atmosphere using audio and visuals. The team is made up of individuals who are passionate about story-telling, worldbuilding, narratives, music and more.
Cory Davis, co-founder of the studio, is known to fans of the industry as he has had significant roles in the development of titles such as Spec Ops: The Line, Condemned, F.E.A.R. and more. Davis was also a founding member of Tangent Games and worked in the horror genre as a creator and composer of Here They Lie.
Davis spoke on the instant connection with Robin Finck, stating, “When I was finishing up work on Here They Lie, Robin wandered into our studio and I felt a very strong connection to his open, creative view of existence, and the power of music…We instantly started working on some prototypes I had in development at the time and together we launched straight toward something unexpected. Robin’s vibrant and boundless approach to the creative process drives our work far beyond my previous experience. It’s such an exhilarating trip to venture into the darkness together.”
Robin Finck was a prominent member of Nine Inch Nails since 1993 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020. Finck has had previous forays into the gaming industry as he scored for video games in 2014 including No Code’s Observation and NOCT from Devolver Digital.
On the partnership, Finck noted, “Cory is a true and impassioned artist. He’s a visionary leader who draws the highest and best from each person on the team, no matter their position. He’s capable and dedicated and he’s open to forces unspeakable. He’s rare. Weird, even. We connected about films and games and music and all the minutia and it was a really positive charge colliding with him. We have a simpatico work ethic and drive, and we see each other soul to soul. Our play together is inspired,”
The team is working on a single-player immersive horror game with strong storytelling elements.
