McDonalds Unable To Giveaway Its Custom PS5 Controllers

Too Hot For Sony

Last week McDonald’s Australia was planning on giving away custom PS5 controllers in celebration of its 50th birthday in Australia. Sony, however, thought it best to ruin the party and pull the plug on the whole operation.

While McDonald’s had good intentions, giving away the product to streamers and as a part of a public competition without actually profiting from it in any way, it apparently also had forgotten to get Sony’s permission to include its product in a marketing scheme. Unsurprisingly, Sony had to step in and stop the giveaway as soon as they had heard of it.

“Unfortunately, McDonald’s stream week has been postponed and won’t be going ahead this Sunday. We are unable to confirm a new date for the proposed event at this time. We will have some great prizing including Macca’s 50th Birthday Hoodies and 50 channel subscriptions for each streamer to give away. We will be in contact with the new timing as soon as we have it confirmed.” McDonald’s said in a follow-up statement, “Sony PlayStation has not authorized the use of its controller in promotional materials related to the proposed Stream Week event and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. McDonald’s stream week has been postponed and Sony PlayStation controllers will not be included in the giveaway.”

It is still unclear if the stream will now include any other giveaways to make up for the disappointment, however, even if it does, it would be very hard to top the custom PS5 controllers.
