Let’s Hope It Isn’t Colonial Marines
Focus Home Interactive has announced that Aliens: Fireteam Elite is set to launch on August 24. The third-person co-op survival shooter looks promising at the very least, and I’m always game for a good horde shooter.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite has you playing as Marine Assault Unit to LV-895, where a distress call leads you to some aliens. With that setup, you will be able to customize your marine and join up with AI or 2 other players to take on 4 campaigns.
Yeah, only 2 other players, so this game does receive a knock for adding on to the three-player-only co-op where people everywhere are finding out if they are the fourth friend. It’s me. I’m the fourth friend.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite offers over 20 enemy types, including 11 different Xenomorphs. That’s a decent amount of enemy variety, and it sounds like you will have to constantly be on board as they can swarm through air vents and doors.
As for customizing your marine, Aliens: Fireteams Elite seems to have plenty of options. You can choose from five unique classes – Gunner, Demolisher, Technician, Doc, and Recon – with their own special abilities and perks. You will have access to 30+ weapons and 70+ mods for those weapons.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite also promises a Challenge Card system, which they claim will lead to a unique experience with each campaign mission.
Focus Home Interactive promises future support for the game as well as the Endeavor Pass will give you access to four seasons of post-launch content.
This definitely seems like a promising game, but it does have some stiff competition, with Back for Blood offering a similar horde killing experience. I guess it is a good time to be a fan of horde shooters.
