Stranger Things 3: The Game Delisted from PC, Moves to Netflix Gaming

Another Netflix IP to Be Delisted This Month

If you’re a Stranger Things fan, act fast – Stranger Things 3: The Game will be delisted from both Steam and GOG tomorrow.  No official explanation was given for the sudden delisting, only those who purchase the game before tomorrow will be able to play it.

This news follows the announced delisting of Dead by Daylight’s Stranger Things DLC by Behaviour Interactive.  In this case, the reason for the delisting is the expiring Stranger Things DLC.  Although this announcement was less abrupt and the DLC will delist on November 17th, the Hawkins National Laboratory Map will nevertheless be removed from the game.

In the case of Stranger Things 3: The Game, the entire game will be unable to be purchased starting August 31st, 2021.  Unlike the Dead by Daylight’s Stranger Things DLC, there is no sale for the game before its delisting –  you must buy the game for its full price of $10.  The game is a retro action-adventure game that follows the plot of Stranger Things Season 3.

Although no official explanation has been given for the sudden delisting of Stranger Things videogame IP, it is most likely due to the planned Netflix game streaming service.  The delisting announcement of Stranger Things 3: The Game coincides with the test launch of Netflix Gaming exclusively in Portland.  In this launch, Stranger Things 3: The Game was launched as part of the so far Android-exclusive service.

It’s pretty sobering to realize that your favorite games or content within games that rely on licensed IP may disappear overnight, but that’s just the reality of temporary licenses being used in games.
