Xbox One Space Jam Controller Impressions
Earlier this month, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers were treated to a little surprise when Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game arrived as an exclusive for members. If you haven’t played the game yet, it doesn’t sound like you are missing too much.
As it stands, it is currently scoring 55/100 with only 4 reviews on Metacritic. Granted, it is a kid’s game and a movie-based one at that; so your expectations should not be too high anyhow. I won’t blame you if you took a pass. But if you are overlooking those sweet limited edition Xbox Series X|S controllers inspired by the new Space Jam movie, you might be making a mistake.
Simply put, they are amazing and beautiful. Xbox was kind enough to send us all three controllers and they are unquestionably eye-popping.
There is a “Tune Squad” controller featuring those classic Space Jam blue and orange colors, a “Goon Squad” controller with a black and purple design, and a “Serververse” controller sporting a Tron-like look. You can pick up all three of those controllers individually from the Microsoft store or Amazon. Although, at the time of writing, it doesn’t seem like much is available. Hopefully, more will become available when the movie drops or when Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game arrives on Game Pass.
The “Tune Squad” controller was my favorite out of the bunch, but the other two controllers are equally slick. They are fully licensed Xbox Series X|S Controllers so you get the sculpted surfaces, enhanced sharing options, textured grips, hybrid D-pad, and more. With the exception of the Xbox Elite controller, these Space Jam controllers are about the best controllers you’ll ever use on your Series X|S.
They make great collector items too if you are someone like me, who has amassed far too many Xbox controllers over the years. I currently have them displayed on a shelf alongside other gaming figures and collector items.
I should say there is a 4th controller that is perhaps even more limited, but we did not get a chance to check that one out. It is contained in a Xbox x Nike collaboration kit, with a pair of Nike LeBron 18 Lows. The shoes are inspired by the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote, and an accompanying controller is a mash-up of the two in an eternal rivalry.
Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game can be played right now by Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers and will be coming out on July 15th on Game Pass on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
Space Jam: A New Legacy will be out in theaters on July 16th.
