The Void Beckons…
We’ve been waiting with bated breath for more news about Heart Machine’s latest offering, Solar Ash. The team behind the indie hit Hyper Light Drifter have given us a few glimpses of Solar Ash’s gameplay, with the fast-paced combat we’ve come to expect from them translated into a stunning 3D world. Now, after publisher Annapurna Interactive’s livestream event earlier today, we’ve finally got an exact release date for Solar Ash.Â
Solar Ash is a 3D platforming game that follows the journey of Rei, a Voidrunner who must journey through a vibrantly colored yet dying world as she tries to save her home from a massive black hole – the Ultravoid. Just like in Hyper Light Drifter, there’s a huge focus on fast movement – Rei traverses the world with fluid motion and speed, with a grappling hook at the ready to climb or cross difficult distances.
In the Epic Games Store description, Heart Machine give a fairly vague outline of what Solar Ash entails: “Journey through a surreal, vivid and highly stylized world filled with mystery, wild high-speed traversal, endearing characters, and massive enemy encounters. The Void is calling… ”
In the newly-revealed release date trailer, we get a few more looks at the gorgeous world of Solar Ash, including the giant Void monsters that Rei will have to take down in here last-ditch effort to save her home. We also see a few interesting-looking game mechanics – there seems to be a collection aspect to the game, with Rei picking up a few mysterious red orbs. Will they be used to fuel her powers? Solar Ash will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and the Epic Games Store on October 26th – but it’s available to wishlist on the Epic Games Store right now!
