Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 Will Overhaul the UI and Add More Adorable Owlbear Cub Moments

You Had Us at “Owlbear Cub”

The team behind Baldur’s Gate 3 has been hard at work these last few months, and now their efforts are about to bear fruit in the form of a new patch. Patch 5 will be dropping this week and it’ll be bringing with it some much-anticipated tweaks improvements to the game.

A 9-minute-long community video from founder & Game Director Swen Vincke explains a little more about what players can expect from Patch 5. The list includes new game-changing mechanics, plenty of combat and AI improvements, some visual upgrades to weapons and cinematics, a greater focus on roleplaying, and more Owlbear cub content for fans of Owlbear cubs. Even better, you can also take a step toward unraveling the mysteries of Shadowheart.

The full patch notes will be revealed on launch, but major highlights for this update include the new Active Roll system, the addition of Background Goals, the implementation of Camp Supplies, and the arrival of Mini Camps. Active Rolls will give you much more agency during skill checks and open up new opportunities when facing notoriously difficult challenges, Background Goals add new secret miniquests depending on the Background you chose during character creation, and Camp Supplies will encourage resource management–and give you something to use your hoard of dead fish for.

The update will also feature a boost to enemy AI and resourcefulness, which should lead your enemies, your allies, and your love interests–who are probably both–to make more reasonable decisions. It will also add a new Non-Lethal Attack Mode, old-school point and click dialogue, and even some interesting new story content centered around “a certain party member.” Oh, and as we mentioned earlier, they added some adorable new moments with the Owlbear cub.

If you’re a Baldur’s Gate fan, now might be a good time to go back to the game and get ready for something new.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 will be available on July 13th, 2021.
