But Can You Sic Crocodiles on Your Enemies?
After being delayed several months thanks to the pandemic, Far Cry 6 has a new release date, and Ubisoft has released a new gameplay trailer to celebrate. This almost 5-minute-long video takes a deep dive into what players can expect of life in the fictional Caribbean nation of Yara–or, more specifically, what dirty tricks players can expect to be able to pull off in the game. Spoilers, crocodiles do appear to be involved. Players take on the role of Dani Rojas, a local Yaran military drop-out who gets swept up in the revolutionary movement against brutal dictator Antón Castillo. Dani soon plunges deep into guerilla combat and joins forces with a colorful cast of rebels while battling a literal army in true Far Cry fashion.
The video is presented in the form of Juan Cortez, a jaded ex-KGB spy, giving Dani a blunt, no-nonsense speech about what the guerilla lifestyle–and fighting style–will entail. Mostly, this means getting ready to embrace the “resolver” spirit, a philosophy of resourcefulness and doing whatever you have to with whatever you have. The game has a heavy emphasis on customizing weapons, tools, and vehicles, including a motorcycle engine powered minigun and a homing missile throwing backpack.
Fary Cry 6 will allow players to determine their preferred playstyle, whether they’d rather go in guns blazing or take a stealthier approach. You can travel through the country on horseback or sneak your way into the city. Antón’s army controls the air, roads, and seas, which means players will be operating out of hidden camps scattered throughout the nation. This will add some serious tension to your journey. You can also pair up with new animal companions like Chorizo, an adorable wiener dog, or Guapo, Juan’s ever-hungry pet crocodile. However you choose to play, freeing Yara from its despotic rulers promises to be a real challenge.
Far Cry 6 will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and Google Stadia on October 7th, 2021. Preorders are open now, including the truly insane-looking Collector’s Edition.
