A Retelling of a Gothic Story
The remake train cannot be stopped, but it does occasionally drop off the map for two years. We blame the pandemic. Whatever the case, we’re happy to see the remake of 2001 cult classic RPG Gothic once again underway. THQ Nordic announced today that they’d incorporated a new studio, Alkimia Interactive, which has set up an office in Barcelona, Spain. Alkimia will focus on developing RPG and action-adventure games, beginning with the Gothic remake for Next-Gen systems and PC. Speaking of that project, judging by this comparison trailer, it’s going well so far. We can’t wait to see what it’ll look like when it’s finished.
The playable teaser that came out in 2019 is still available, but Alkimia is still hard at work building the full game and they’re looking for help. If you’ve got experience in the gaming industry or know someone who has, you might consider checking out the job listings on their website–they’re currently hiring for a wide variety of positions, and they accept international and remote applications. The site doesn’t say whether a history with the original Gothic is required, but we’re pretty sure it wouldn’t hurt.
“We strive to build Alkimia Interactive as a top-notch RPG studio”, said Reinhard Pollice, Studio Head at Alkimia Interactive. “Our ambition is to become one of the best addresses for PC/Console core game development in the South of Europe.”
If that’s their goal, they’re already hard at work achieving it, because Alkimia is already employing 35 developers to remake Gothic from scratch. To which we can only say: good luck, Alkimia Interactive! We believe in you!
