Make Your Nightmares Afraid of You in Lichenvale

First Person Hack and Slash in the Style of Quake and Hexen

Some retro games are the stuff dreams are made of. Others are positively nightmarish. Lichenvale, an upcoming single-player first-person melee hack and slash game flavored with magic, some light puzzling, and just a dash of platforming, is setting up to be both. In this dark fantasy outing, players will take on the role of a young woman trapped in her own nightmares. You must battle your way through the dark labyrinths of your own psyche… or be trapped here forever. Expect to face plenty of skeletons and boogeymen on your way to the surface. It wouldn’t be a retro-inspired hack and slash without them.

Lichenvale is the brainchild of one-man dev team Filip Zemljak. He’s a former Ubisoft-developer gone indie, and believe us, his history as a professional game dev really shows. Especially in the graphics department. He’ll be unleashing his creation on Steam in a public alpha demo beginning February 1st, but if you’re interested, you’d better act fast. The demo will only be available for a limited period–namely, 15 days. Pounce on the opportunity while you have the chance. The early bird gets the… zombies, we guess.

According to the press release, the demo “will feature two levels of the upcoming game, with a short tutorial for the inexperienced, and should approximately take 30 to 60 minutes to finish, depending on the skill. Anyone with a free Steam account will be able to download the demo in the period of 15 days, try the game, and hopefully discuss their feedback with the developer or even stream/record a video.”

The full game will feature a story mod, 10 maps with a wide variety of mobs, regional and main bosses, and a New Game+ mode.

Lichenvale will be released on an upcoming date for Steam.
