After 10 Years, Ghosts ‘N Goblins Resurrection Is Coming Out

Forget DnD! GnG for Me!

It has been 10 years since the last Ghosts ‘N Goblins game, but 35 years since the first one debuted in arcades. The series follows Sir Arthur and his many journeys to save Princess Prin-Prin from the evil demon King Astaroth. The story and characters are often based on the tale of King Arthur, as Prin-Prin’s name is often localized as Guinevere, and Arthur’s allies are named Lancelot and Perceval. Capcom has decided to revive the series with an aptly named Ghosts ‘N Goblins Resurrection for Nintendo Switch next year.

Ghosts 'N Goblins Resurrection

The trailer for Ghosts ‘N Goblins Resurrection features the classic gameplay of the series that sees Arthur running through 2D areas, jumping over obstacles and enemies, and throwing lances, swords, and daggers to defeat enemies and bosses. One of the staple features of the series is its health system. Arthur wears a suit of armor, but each hit he takes knocks a piece off. He can take two hits before only wearing his boxers. The next hit kills him and he will have to start the level from the beginning or from a checkpoint.

Ghosts ‘N Goblins spawned a couple of spin-off series such as Gargoyle’s Quest and the Maximo series, the latter of which is a 3D adventure game that uses the same health system. Ghosts ‘N Goblins is considered one of the most difficult games ever, so it will be interesting to see if Capcom will keep up the reputation or be more forgiving with the new game. Ghosts ‘N Goblins Resurrection will be available exclusively on Nintendo Switch of February 25th, 2021.
