Destiny 2 Crucible Going 120 FPS on Next-Gen Consoles

Destiny 2 Getting a Shiny Upgrade on Xbox Series X/S and PS5

While Bungie has already confirmed Destiny 2 for Xbox Series X/S and PS5, they only now explained some of the details that fans of Destiny 2 can expect on the next-gen hardware. While the Destiny 2 campaign gameplay seen during the Xbox Series X/S launch celebration live stream ran at 4K 60 FPS, Bungie CEO Pete Parsons confirmed with Phil Spencer that Crucible will be getting the 120 FPS treatment on Xbox Series X and PS5. Destiny 2 is available right now for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Google Stadia, with next-gen upgrades coming on December 8th.

“I’m not a huge Crucible player, I’m very good at getting shot in Crucible, but I do know playing Crucible at 120 (FPS) would be amazing,” said Phil Spencer during the Xbox Series X/S launch celebration live stream. During the stream, Phil Spencer was playing through some of the new Destiny 2: Beyond Light campaign content with Bungie CEO Pete Parsons who confirmed that the campaign content still plays at 4K 60 FPS.

“We are announcing today, right now Crucible at 120 frames-per-second (for Xbox Series X),” said Pete Parsons in response to Phil Spencer’s inquiry. Considering the Crucible will be playing at a higher frame rate than the campaign content of Destiny 2, it’ll be interesting to feel how differently the game plays when switching to the PvP mode from doing some dailies. Destiny 2 will also offer Field of View customization on consoles for the first time with next-gen and the new consoles will also fittingly offer faster load times and cross-gen play with people still on Xbox One and PS4.
