New Disgaea 6 Details Revealed at TGS 2020

Including An Auto Mode

One of the many games with new information at this year’s Tokyo Game Show is Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny. An extended chunk of gameplay was shown off this weekend, complete with new gameplay mechanics and 3D models. In a series famous for breaking RPG conventions, it looks like this entry will be no exception.

While dialogue is still being handled with 2D portraits, the actual combat features 3D models in action. Like previous games in the series, they’re pretty cute! Also the tutorial battle throws around eight digit battle damage like it ain’t no thing. This is a Disgaea game, after all. Promises of damage in the trillions have been made, which…. jeez.

Just how are players supposed to get anywhere near those magnificent power levels? Well, the Auto Mode and Repeat Mode additions should be a big help. Players will be able to set the game to play a given stage on autopilot, while also clearing the same stage repeatedly. The team is also considering smart additions like choosing what kinds of enemies to target, or whether you open any treasure chests. When you combine this idea with the usual presence of stages built exclusively for level grinding, player stats could get utterly insane in record time. The Auto Mode speeds even go all the way to 32X! The mind boggles at the possibilities! Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny is coming west in the Summer of 2021 for the PS4 and the Nintendo Switch.
