Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory Coming in November

Exclusive Party Mode on the Switch

The next installment of the Kingdom Hearts series is quite the departure from the traditional gameplay we have come to expect from one of these titles. Instead of a hack and slash RPG, we are getting a rhythm game. It is kind of reminiscent of Chain of Memories, which took place between Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, that created a card game experience. It also acted as a kind of refresher of the events of the first game. Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory will also be revisiting prior moments in the series.

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory

Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct Mini showed off Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, which will be the first Kingdom Hearts game on the console. We saw a little bit of what we have already been shown and some new stuff. The level select menu will look a bit like a song list we would see in other rhythm games like Rock Band or Just Dance. The songs can be sorted by which Kingdom Hearts game they first appear in or other sources. They also show which characters will be played, like a trio of Roxas, Xion, and Axel, or Sora, Donald, and Goofy.

We also get a short look at the overarching story of the game, where it appears that Kairi enters an Animus-like machine in Radiant Garden to access these memories from these songs. As this preview came from a Nintendo Direct, we also saw an exclusive feature for the Nintendo Switch. While the game will have local multiplayer on every platform, the Switch will have up to 8 player Free-For-All. While that is exciting news for Switch players, something that every Kingdom Hearts fan will enjoy is that the release date for Melody of Memory has been revealed. Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory will be coming out on November 13th for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Pre-purchase for this game on Nintendo Switch is available now.
