This Certainly Wasn’t Expected
Today, the official Halo Twitter dropped a bombshell of news: Halo Infinite’s multiplayer will be free-to-play on Xbox Series X. This will open the flood gates of new players, and as you probably know, more players mean a better matchmaking experience.
We don’t know all the details yet about how their free-to-play system will work. Perhaps it will be fully open, or perhaps certain maps won’t be available to f2p players, maybe slower progression? Who knows. I’m hoping that there isn’t some ridiculous loot box shenanigans, especially for the players who are already paying full price for games. Actually, I’m fine with loot boxes as long as you can only earn them through gameplay, but straight up buying skins takes away the fun and prestige of progression and unlocking new things.
The tweet stated, “Halo is for everyone. We can confirm #HaloInfinite multiplayer will be free-to-play and will support 120FPS on Xbox Series X. More details will be shared later!”
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean to downplay how awesome of the news is. Free to play Halo multiplayer is great! I just get nervous around the term, especially when there is a full-priced game attached to it…
